If you’ve ever done fire testing with QCM Flamelab, it’s likely you’ve come across our laboratory manager, Jakub Gałkiewicz.

Jakub joined the QCM team in September 2021, bringing with him a unique blend of passion for aviation and expertise in fire testing.

His interest in aviation began at a young age, originally aspiring to be a military test pilot. Following his studies in aircraft engineering and mechanics, Jakub completed a graduation internship at a production company with a testing lab, where he found his true calling—fire testing. He quickly excelled, taking the lead in the lab within two years and gaining valuable experience.

Jakub’s journey to QCM began at the AIX airshow in Hamburg in 2018, where QCM was showcasing Flamelab 4.0, an automated Bunsen Burner test cell which improves reliability of testing by removing human variables. His vision of building an independent laboratory aligned perfectly with QCM’s goals, and, as a result, QCM Flamelab opened its doors in Łódź, Poland in September 2021.

Jakub is one of very few people in Poland with the expertise to run an independent fire testing lab. As the Laboratory Manager, Jakub is responsible for overseeing all fire testing operations, maintaining lab standards, and leading on-site activities, customer relations, recruitment, and audits. His goal? To make QCM’s lab one of the top five independent fire testing facilities in Europe.

No two days are the same for Jakub, which he finds thrilling. He loves the spontaneity of his role, and fire testing for Jakub feels more like a passion than a job. The excitement and adrenaline of working with high temperatures and jet fuel continue to inspire him, knowing that his work plays a vital role in ensuring passenger safety.

For aspiring fire testing professionals, Jakub advises: “Go to the lab and ask for a job.” Hands-on experience is key in this niche field.
